Cris Derksen and Michael Ann Connor and Claudia Medina

Touching Velvet
Friday April 18 · Live Audio

Skin touches skin, synapses fire. Music, image and flesh re-combine. A multisensory performance unraveling the emotional/physical landscape of sex. As the multi-effected cellist plays her compositions, her body and the space around her become a canvas on which a video artist mixes live video feeds of audience body revelations and pre-created imagery.

Cris Derksen is a Half-Cree cellist emerging from UBC. She creates an orchestrated sound with her cello using multiple effects. Claudia Media is a cross cultural/analog/digital hybrid who loves telling stories with moving pictures.

Michael-Ann Connor is a multidiscipline creator mixing performance and visual arts. In her world dance is prayer.

Claudia Medina was born in small pulp town BC, highly reminiscent of Twin Peaks. She has been embedded with a Lynchian obsession for the strange and upside down ever since. Her roots in Mexico and Italy have added to a constantly morphing state of mental confusion, which she channels into films that tell stories of death, tricksters, hearbreak and lost cows. She also loves to work with other artists (especially musicians and dancers) and create visual layers to wrap audiences in and mess up their sense of time. She will go just about anywhere to project images, especially if it involves ice castles.
