Naoko Sasaki
Awash | 2007 | 1:39mins | BetaSP | 10:00mins | Japan/Canada
Naoko Sasaki was born and raised in Japan where she studied and taught chemistry. She moved to Canada in 1989 and became interested in still photography. She studied media arts at Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design, shifting from still to moving images, and graduated in 2003.
The everyday world is the subject matter of Naoko’s work - her love of close observation, experimentation and abstraction informed by her science background. Japanese haiku poetry has been a great influence on her stylistic choices for its simplicity in form and openness to interpretation.
