SIGNAL + NOISE MEDIA ART FESTIVAL
VIVO Media Arts Centre presents the ninth annual Signal + Noise Festival; three days of innovative contemporary media art. Showcasing a spectrum of audio & video works, live action performances and immersive installations, Signal + Noise is Vancouver’s premier alternative media event.
Signal + Noise is a highlight of VIVO’s programming. The festival presents the work of local, national and international artists. Created nine years ago in response to Vancouver’s explosive contemporary arts underground, Signal and Noise has become an essential forum for creative exchange.
VIVO MEDIA ARTS CENTRE
VIVO is a not for profit media production, exhibition and distribution centre. We are an evolving organization operated by and for artists and media/community activists. Since 1973, with the founding of the Satellite Video Exchange Society (SVES), VIVO has grown into a vibrant artist-run centre with state of the art facilities and educational workshops. We have production equipment, studio space, audio, video and new media post-production facilities, and during regular hours of operation, light-technical support is available to producers as they work. Other exciting facets of the centre include Video Out’s International Distribution network, archive and resource centre, as well as ongoing public events and exhibitions.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Write and distribute a call for volunteers to support all aspects of the festival
• Introduce volunteers to the festival and orient them to the various tasks and roles available to them
• Maintain communications and schedules between festival staff and volunteers
• Assist volunteers in succeeding in their responsibilities and enjoying their roles within the festival
• Assist festival coordinators in providing food and hospitality for volunteers
• Oversee volunteer positions throughout the festival, as well as during set-up and take-down
• Problem solve scheduling and resource questions
• Respond to potential changes in festival needs for volunteer assistance, and volunteer needs

Volunteer Outreach and Intake: March 23 – April 14
Poster Dissemination Coordination: March 27 on.
Pre-Festival Centre Set-up: April 15- April 22
Festival: April 22-26
Post-Festival take down: April 27-28
INTERN BENEFITS
• Attend all of the events of the festival at no cost
• Gain experience working in an Media Arts Artist Run Centre
• Exposure to a range of media arts practices and contemporary artists
• Opportunity to network with visiting and local artists, other volunteers, festival coordinators and VIVO staff and members
• Become familiar with all aspects of running a multi-day media arts festival
• Receive Video Bucks for each hour you put into the festival. This will give you $15 Video Bucks per hour to put toward equipment rental and media suite or studio access

Assistant Programmer Responsibilities (assist festival programmers in the following)
• Collect and organize information on artists and artwork for the website, programs, and press
• Organize print traffic
• Liaison with the Volunteer Coordinator to assure the festival is well supported by volunteers
• Preparing the Centre for installations and performances
• Coordinate billets and transportation for visiting artists
• Coordinate artist hospitality
• Collect statistics on volunteers, artists, and events for report writing
