Kitchen Radio is an ongoing project taking place in the kitchen of the basement apartment at 1749 Grant Street, Vancouver. Conceived as a site for local interaction and beyond, Kitchen Radio is an impromptu, DIY radio station, broadcast within a tiny radius in the Commercial Drive area, and streamed online to a broader geographical audience. The project is a site for social and sonic interaction between Rosamond, Tsuchida, invited guests, and whoever tunes in. It is a platform for both traditional and experimental radio formats, including call-in shows, musical sets (both pre-recorded and live jam sessions using bizarre/unconventional instruments such as the Theramin, finger cymbals, and various kitchen utensils), interviews, conversations, spoken word, and recorded dinner parties.
Kitchen Radio is 88.5 FM (between CBC - 88.1 FM and Vancouver Tourism - 89.3 FM). Kitchen Radio will be able to be received in a one-block radius around the 1700 block of Grant St. and the 1900 block of Main St. Programming will be loosely scheduled to leave room for unexpected guests and Signal + Noise artists to drop by and eat/chat/jam. Even when there is no formal ‘segment’ Tsuchida and Rosamond might be mic-ing an appliance or two and leaving the house, replaying a pre-recorded segment, or washing their dishes. Keep tuning in and look forward to being surprised!
