Immersed | 2007 | 3:50mins | BetaSP | Canada

Portia Priegert is an artist and writer based in Kelowna, B.C. Her cultural production includes contemporary projects in video, text, installation and mixed media. Her interests include mapping, intersections between the natural and the technological, and the role of arts in social change. Priegert is a BFA graduate from UBC Okanagan and a former director of the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art.

Immersed simulates an eerie underwater environment through the poetic use of slow-motion video and sound. Editing becomes a tool of subterfuge as footage from various urban carwashes is blended, creating an oblique critique about the dislocation of subjective experience within the technological constructs of contemporary society.
